Meet Larry Barkan

Box Office Associate

How long have you worked at the Center? A little over 3 years.

What do you do? I sell tickets to our shows and answer questions about our shows and our theater when people call us or come to our box office.

What did you do before you came to work for the Center? After college, I was a high school teacher at a Chicago public school. I then worked in the human resources department for a multinational corporation. Finally, I was a training and development consultant in my own business. I led seminars on topics related to leadership and management.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job? I most enjoy solving problems for patrons. For example, when a patron inadvertently purchased tickets for the wrong show date and wants to exchange those tickets or when someone who has purchased tickets online is unable to either find those tickets or is unable to print them.

What's your favorite show you’ve seen at the Center? I enjoyed Shirley MacLaine. It was fun to hear the behind the scenes story of her career and the people she has worked with.

What are you most proud of? First and foremost, my biggest accomplishment is being loved by and loving my wife for 46 years. In second place, I’m delighted that I can now handle most situations that occur in the box office. Third, prior to coming to CCA, I had my own business for 30 years. Finally, I love books and have been on the board of the Friends of the Tempe Public Library for 4 years.

Who is your favorite visual and/or performing artist? Perhaps Bruce Springsteen, who I admire as both a performer and a humanitarian.  

What performer have you always wanted to see? The Buddha. I’ve got some questions for him. If he’s no longer available (which I hear is a possibility), I’d like to spend time with Keith Richards. He strikes me as a wise, old soul.

What challenges or opportunities are you tackling next? I’m considering being healthy and living forever.
