Chandler Center for the Arts sent questions to Mackenzie, the lead singer for New Power Generation. This powerhouse vocalist, while also touring with the band that Prince called his "best band ever," is burning up the stage on America's Got Talent.  

1. What or who is inspiring your work right now? And, why?

 I find inspiration everywhere, as cliche as it may sound, there really is music in every aspect of life.....I hear it in the wind....in conversations....I am always looking for the rhythm. 

2. What musicians/bands are you listening to?

 I love a lot of old school funk and R&B but right now I love HER, and I listen to Prince and Marvin Gaye daily. 

3. What do you think is surprising about music right now that people may not be aware of?

 I feel like the industry has completely flipped and the internet has put the power in the hands of the artist....it's a really exciting time. 

4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

A private island where I could record and enjoy time with all of my friends and family 24/7.

5. If you weren't a musician, what other profession would you want to have?

A truck driver. My favorite job ever was driving for the county picking up recycling. The job came with a lot of freedom and I didn't have to sit at a desk.
