Trumpeter, composer, and 2011 NEA Jazz Master Wynton Marsalis performs his live score to accompany a screening of director Dan Pritzker's 2010 film Louis** that plays homage to Louis Armstrong. Joined by classical pianist Cecile Licad and an all-star 11-piece jazz ensemble, this immersive multimedia experience is sure to be spectacular. 

Louis: A Silent Movie with Live Accompaniment by Wynton Marsalis is a captivating blend of vintage cinema and contemporary musical brilliance. This unique event features a silent film about Louis Armstrong, a pivotal figure in jazz history, brought to life with a live score composed and performed by the renowned jazz musician Wynton Marsalis and an 11-piece jazz ensemble. 

Directed by Dan Pritzker and shot beautifully by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond, Louis (originally released in 2010) is an homage to Louis Armstrong and celebrates the deep musical heritage of New Orleans.

ABOUT WYNTON MARSALIS

Cecile Licad is a soloist whose repertoire spans the Classical works of Mozart and Beethoven, the Romantic literature of Brahms, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky, and 20th century compositions of Debussy, Shostakvich, and Bartok. Her natural talent was honed at the Curtis Institute of Music by three of the greatest performers of our time : Rudolf Serkin, Seymour Lipkin, and Mieczyslaw Horszowski. As a highly regarded chamber musician, she has performed regulary with ensembles such as the New York Chamber Symphony and Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center among others.
