Recently, staff had the chance to interview Venezuelan violinist Daniela Padrón. We talked to her about how she got started on her career path and what attendees can expect at her upcoming intimate performance on Sunday, November 19, in the Hal Bogle Theatre.
“My mom is a pianist,” says Padrón. “She says I was born, drank milk, breathed and then started playing music. I was three years old when I started playing the violin and the piano.”
Daniela was attending a music school in Caracas and at eight, she had to make a decision to choose either the violin or the piano.
“It was easy. I chose the violin because my mom didn’t know how to play it,” she says with a grin.
She excelled at school and became a professional musician at the age of 16. She recorded her first album with her mom on the piano. Padron credits her mom for being her biggest influence and the reason why she pursued Latin American music. She also credits her teachers and mentors Virginie Robilliard and Olga Lopez.
While she enjoys playing classical music, throughout her career she has played other genres of music as a soloist and in ensembles.
“When I was 17 years old, I played prog rock. And then I was in a Celtic music band,” says Padrón.
In 2013, she was nominated with the world music band Gaêlica in the Folk Music category. She saw another nomination in 2022, with her album Ella in the Best Instrumental Album category, along with pianist Glenda Del E.
In 2018, Padrón performed her repertoire, Bach to Venezuela, at the CCA.
“Ever since then, I have wanted to come by. It was a beautiful experience; the venue and the people were so warm,” says Padrón. “Life has happened in the time between then and now and I am looking forward to coming back.”
She says the performance on November 19 will be a night of music that takes you all around the world. From Vivaldi to Dave Brubeck and everything in between. Joining her for the performance is pianist Maestro Antulio Mora.
“I had been following his career as a pianist for some time and then last year, I had the opportunity to meet him,” says Padrón. “It was love at first play. We have beautiful chemistry on stage and as friends.”
“I am really happy to be performing with him. He has played with some of the greatest Latin American singers,” she continues.
When we asked her what she might have been doing if she wasn’t a musician. She told us that she thinks she would be a Physical Therapist. She had PT and she thinks she would totally enjoy what they do, helping to bring people back to health and to their best.
Who is she listening to right now?
“I love French Pop music. I have been listening to Hoshi; she is influenced by Anime and Japanese culture,” says Padrón. “I can’t get enough of her.”
