The Yellowroot: A Juke Joint Cabaret is an exciting musical storytelling experience filled with jazz, soul, and audience interaction. Created by Ashli St. Armant, the performance brings Black American folktales and legends to life through live music, singing, and theatrical storytelling. Students will enjoy an engaging cultural experience that celebrates creativity, history, and community in a fun and interactive way.
Commissioned by Chandler Center for the Arts and UCSD ArtPower, The Yellowroot is an interactive, theatrical music experience. Treasured stories like “Annie Christmas” and captivating myths like “Mami Wata” are woven together by a common narrative, bringing the heartbeat back to these reimagined tales.
