Film Screening: Style Wars

Free
Mar 19, 2020
Thu 7:00pm

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

See the documentary that sparked the creative collaboration of father and son street art team Such and Champ Styles.

Style Wars is a classic documentary that sheds light on the explosive subculture of hip-hop that was developing in New York City in the late '70s and early '80s, specifically focusing on graffiti art and breakdancing. Legend has it that as a child Champ had his TV privileges revoked after bad behavior in school and had the choice to either read a book or watch a documentary. He chose the latter, picked Style Wars from his dad's collection, and was immediately drawn into the world of graffiti.

This special event is outside the Vision Gallery in the grass courtyard at Chandler City Hall - blankets and cushions are encouraged! Arrive early to grab a good spot and some popcorn. Attendance is free, families are welcome.

This event is produced in conjunction with Vision Gallery's "Two Players, Two Quarters" exhibition featuring the art of Such and Champ Styles, on view now through March 27.
