One Night in Memphis: Presley, Perkins, Lewis & Cash pays tribute to one legendary night in rock and roll history on December 4, 1956.
Carl Perkins and his brothers are recording at Sam Phillip’s Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Included in the recording of the Blues song, “Matchbox,” a young Jerry Lee Lewis from Louisiana plays the piano. Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash come by the studio to listen and an impromptu jam session ensues. A photo and article appears in the Memphis Press and it is dubbed, “The Million Dollar Quartet.” A recording of these musical icons lives on in rock and roll lore.
