This free event honors the Mexican tradition of remembering and celebrating loved ones who have passed with art, music, dance, and family-friendly activities, presented in partnership with the Cultural Coalition featuring acclaimed mask and puppet maker Zarco Guerrero.

3:00 - 5:00 PM | Paper mask-making activity with supplies and instructions provided

3:30 - 4:00 PM | Ballet Folklórico performances by Ballet Folklórico Primavera

4:30 - 5:30 PM | Calaca puppet photo opportunity; Marvel at towering nine-foot skeleton puppets, handcrafted by Zarco Guerrero and animated by the Cultural Coalition, as they roam the lobby

5:30 - 5:50 PM | Axé Capoeira performance; Join in a powerful 20-minute procession featuring calaca-masked drummers and an exhilarating capoeira demonstration; Capoeira is a dynamic sport that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and self-defense.

Edna Vázquez Performance

Following the community festivities, guests are invited to a special ticketed performance by singer-songwriter Edna Vázquez at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are $32. A fearless singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Edna Vázquez is known for her powerful voice and passionate performances that transcend borders. Born in Mexico and based in Portland, Oregon, she blends traditional Mexican music with rock, folk, and pop influences, creating songs that explore themes of love, social justice, and cultural identity. Her music has taken her to stages across the U.S. and beyond, sharing her message of unity and empowerment.

Contribute to the Community Ofrenda

October 17 - November 2, 2025

The public is invited to contribute to the Día de Muertos community ofrenda (altar), designed by local artist Edgar Fernández. The ofrenda is located in the Gallery at CCA and will be open from 12:00 P.M. October 17, 2025 through November 2, 2025.

Bring items that honor your loved ones with a photo or object that reminds you of them. Objects may include sugar skulls, favorite non-perishable food or unopened beverages, paper flowers, and unlit or LED candles. Please sign into the guestbook to leave a note for your loved one, as well as to log any photos or mementos that have been dropped off and that you would like returned. Any personal items can be picked up from the CCA box office during regular business hours from November 3-7.

About the Artist

Edgar Fernandez (B.1990, Los Angeles) is an artist based in Phoenix, Arizona. His practice foregrounds pro-indigenous perspectives and explores Xicano identity, drawing deeply from his ancestral heritage. In 2019, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Arizona State University. Currently, Fernandez is dedicated to producing culturally relevant work that reflects the community shaping his artistic practice.
