WHO:The Chandler Center for the Arts is the premier cultural resource that focuses on leading, advocating and advancing arts and culture in the greater Chandler area for almost 20 years.

WHAT:The Chandler Center for the Arts provides quality, diverse and affordable performing and visual arts programs.

FUNCTION: The Center is known for its quality, live entertainment in an intimate setting, as no seating is further than 100 feet away.  Additionally, special engagement performances and on-going calendar of events performances on the Main Stage are a feature at the Center.  The Main Stage seats 1,540 people.

The Center also serves as a performance site to dozens of performing arts groups in the Phoenix metropolitan area.  These groups reflect Arizona’s rich artistry and contribute to the diversity of offerings at the Center.

UNIQUE
PROGRAMS: Some of the best-kept secrets about the Center include:

  • The Exhibition Hall at the Center offers dozens of free exhibits each year that are open to the public and represent a range of artistic mediums and cultural origins.·
  • The Arts Pass program provides free tickets to non-profit agencies to distribute to clients who might otherwise be unable to engage in the arts.  The Arts Pass program serves 2,000-3,000 underserved citizens each year.·
  • The Vision Kidz Workshop Series at the Vision Gallery is a free workshop series taught by professional artists to children, affording them early exposure to the visual arts and the opportunity to create their own masterpiece. It is one of the only such free programs of arts education for children.  Geared for students of all ages, workshops are offered in a variety of mediums such as batik, ceramics, collage, painting, watercolor, drawing, instrument making and more.  More than 1,500 children benefit each year from the Vision Kidz Workshops.·
  • The Free Summer Concert Series is an annual series of free concerts that has been enjoyed by the public since 1996.  This year’s series kicks-off on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. with the Trans Celtic Gala featuring Oceans Apart, The McTeggart Irish Dancers and the Phoenix Pipe Band.·
  • Simple, Fast, No Per Ticket Fees!  Convenient online ticketing is now at your fingertips 24 hours per day, seven days per week, with no per ticket fees.   Patrons can now save time (and gas money!) by buying tickets online, and it costs exactly the same as buying tickets through the Center’s box office.
  • The Community Performing Arts Connection (C-PAC) is about building participation for young people and adults.  Launched in 2007, C-PAC provides free student performances, workshops and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for members of the community to work closely with professional performing artists. In the 2008-2009 season, the following opportunities will be available:
    • Student performances of The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
    • Student performances and community workshops with JazzReach
    • Master classes and community workshops with the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company

ABOUT CHANDLER CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Chandler Center for the Arts is jointly owned by the City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District.  The Chandler Cultural Foundation is a nonprofit corporation and was contracted in 1989 by the City of Chandler as the programming and fundraising entity for the Chandler Center for the Arts.

While the Chandler Center for the Arts is a City of Chandler and Chandler Unified School District building, its artistic and outreach programs are privately supported.  The Chandler Center for the Arts receives no direct appropriations for artistic programming.  Its appropriations must be applied only to the maintenance and operation of the actual building. Ticket sales and other earned income cover only part of the Center’s programming expenses, which means it must rely on donations in order to deliver quality arts programs at an affordable cost to the public.  Membership contributions sustain a spectacular array of services and programs.  To become a member or to purchase tickets with no per-ticket fee, visit the website at www.chandlercenter.org.

The Chandler Center for the Arts is located at the northwest corner of Chandler Blvd. and Arizona Ave. in Chandler, Ariz.  For more information call, 480.782.2680 or visit the website at www.chandlercenter.org.

As one of the artistic arms of the Chandler Center for the Arts, The Vision Gallery is a non-profit art gallery managed by the Chandler Cultural Foundation.  Exhibits are rotated on a regular basis.  A portion of all art sales are used to fund the Vision Kidz Program, a series of art education workshops offered to the community free of charge.  Vision Gallery is located at 80 South San Marcos Place in Chandler.  Its hours of operation are: Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Visit the gallery’s website at www.visiongallery.org.
