Dynamic leaders, loyal supporters and courageous visionaries describe the Board members of Chandler Cultural Foundation.
Incorporated in 1989, Chandler Cultural Foundation is a not-for-profit organization responsible for both promoting and operating Chandler Center for the Arts.
Considered one of the finest performing arts venues in the Southwest, Chandler Center for the Arts is an elegant, multi-use facility jointly owned by the City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District. Each year dozens of local, national and international artists perform on the Center’s three stages. Additionally, hundreds of high school and grade school programs are hosted during the school year.
To ensure the smooth and profitable operation of such a busy performing arts center, the members of Chandler Cultural Foundation Board are assigned the task of:
- Reviewing and approving proposed management policies
- Reviewing and approving the annual operating budget
- Managing a Philanthropic Endowment
- Developing and coordinating fundraising programs to support the Center
- Reviewing and approving proposed programs and visual art exhibits at the Center
New Challenges!
When Chandler Center for the Arts opened twenty-years ago, the challenge for the Foundation was to help fill the seats, maintain high quality performances, and keep the ticket prices affordable for everyone.
Today, the goals are even more demanding due to increased competition and the uncertain economy, but the board members of Chandler Cultural Foundation never lose sight of attendance, quality and affordability as the keystones of a successful performing arts center. Through their dedicated leadership the Center has consistently enjoyed sold-out performances, rave program revues from the community, and fiscally sound seasons.
Selection Of Artists
One of the most challenging and rewarding jobs faced annually by the Board is selecting the performers who will fill the seats in the Center and provide quality entertainment.
The Board must select programs that appeal to a diverse audience, literally something for everyone. The possibilities are vast -- from classical, country, rock, jazz, dance, children’s and comedy. There are literally thousands of entertainers who would take great pleasure in performing on the main stage in front of 1,534 fans. The challenge to the Board of Directors is selecting acts that appeal to the widest spectrum of participants at an affordable price.
With the help of the Center’s staff, Board members discuss various entertainers and acts and review promotional materials before approving a schedule of programs.
Active Committees
Chandler Cultural Foundation provides volunteers with many exciting opportunities to support Chandler Center for the Arts. Current committees and sub-committees include:
- Long-Range Planning – Excellence now and focused on the future
- Programming – Something for everyone!
- Audit – A fiscally strong organization is essential
- Fundraising – Building an endowment for the future
Adopt-A-Seat – sub-committee – A fun program to involve the community
Planned Giving – sub-committee – Estate planning for future growth
Fundraising Activities
As the fundraising arm of Chandler Center for the Arts, the Foundation raises money to support artistic and educational programs and for an endowment fund that creates long-term sustainability for the Center.
Board members are encouraged to make personal contributions to the endowment fund. This personal gift is not only a show of support for the Center but it also helps the Foundation obtain philanthropic gifts when grants are submitted to local and regional funding sources.
